This weekend Todd and I decided to go crazy and spend over six hours driving in the car to spend the day in San Antonio. Despite the long drive, we had fun exploring the city for a few hours catching all of the main tourist attractions. It was insanely HOT by the middle of the afternoon, but we managed to still enjoy our day outdoors.
When we arrived in the city, we went straight to the Alamo. Todd had warned me that it’s insanely small (as did every other blog post about it). It was pretty small with not much to see inside, but it was fun reading about it’s history on our drive down and taking pictures in front of it.
After the Alamo, we headed down to the River Walk. It’s definitely not a place you want to let toddlers run around since there is no railing in between the walkway and the water. We kept Theo in his stroller or I tightly held onto his hand and let him walk for a few minutes. We stopped at Rita’s for lunch. Honestly, the food wasn’t as great as I had hoped, but the virgin piña colada was pretty delicious and they have great salsa.
After the Riverwalk, we headed over to Brackenridge Park to let Theo run around. By this point it was pretty hot and the park was packed with families, but it was nice to let Theo run around and get some energy out. We also fed the ducks thanks to a kind mom who gave us her leftover bread. Theo loved throwing the pieces of bread into the water, especially when the ducks all dove for it! He loves throwing things period, so this was a fun game for him.
We ended our day with a stop at Lulu’s Bakery and Cafe for their famous 3-pound cinnamon roll. Seriously, this thing is HUGE! I couldn’t believe it, and it’s actually very delicious and only $10! What a steal. We walked in and got it to go since we were still full from our late lunch. It tastes great the next day, we heated it up in the microwave… YUM! It was so good, we had to give half of it away because we were worried we would eat it all!
We had a great weekend exploring more of Texas. I really wish weekends didn’t have to end! I hope you have a wonderful week and a very happy Valentine’s Day tomorrow!
