I love Halloween and children make holidays even more fun! The past two years we have thrown a Halloween Party and it had become somewhat of a tradition. But with all of the chaos going on and still being new to the Houston area, we decided to forgo the party this year.
We spent the weekend celebrating Halloween at our church’s trunk-or-treat and then at Zoo Boo at the Houston Zoo. I felt like I had my costume on the entire weekend, best to get as much use out of them as possible! My mom made Theo’s costume and I made his helmet using a funnel, some elastic, silver spray paint, and a drill. We was the cutest and since he’s still a little wobbly walking, he was the perfect tin man.
This year was Theo’s first time trick-or-treating and the neighborhood was SO fun! Todd and I are used to cold weather and trick-or-treating in coats that conceal your costume. It was a beautiful night in Houston and everyone was out on their porches passing out candy. Theo decided to start walking on Halloween, so we walked him up to each door and let him pick out his candy. Sometimes he was a little overwhelmed at doors with lots of decorations or a crowd of kids, but he did great! Everyone loved our costumes and we got TONS of compliments throughout the night.
After an hour of trick-or-treating, we headed back home for dinner with some friends. I LOVE cornbread and chili and growing up, my mom would make it every year on Halloween. So, this year I wanted to resurrect this family tradition. We also played Clue and watched our favorite Halloween movie, Hocus Pocus.
We had a wonderful Halloween and we are looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas soon!
*Costumes: My Dorthy Costume was purchased at Walmart and my ruby slippers are Toms. Theo’s costume is homemade, his helmet was made with a funnel and an elastic and spray painted silver. The silver fabric was purchased at Joanne’s and the heart was cut out and made from an iron-on material available in the fabric section at Hobby Lobby. Todd’s costume was also homemade using a shirt and hat from Goodwill. The stuffing was purchased at Hobby Lobby. Boston’s mane was purchased on Amazon. I safety pinned the mane to his caller to keep it on.
